The DanSynergy Series began with a vision nine years ago to collaborate with community artists, musicians, writers, poets, and performing artists to create a fusion of energy in the arts community. Carlos Agudelo's idea has permeated into the community with bold, innovative and daring choreography tackling societal messages of today such as human despair, the struggles of diversity and acceptance, the depths of love between a couple, a mother, daughter or family, historical figures, social justice and triumphs/celebrations of life.
Filmmaker Julie Sexeny, writer Kerry Ferguson, visual artist Susan Floyd, choreographers Lona Gomez, Michelle Thompson Ulerich, Carlos Agudelo, Nelson Reyes, composers Scott Robbins and Tim Giles, and the Spartanburg Art Museum contribute their artistry to this production.
Featuring four original ballets, the evening explores the life and work of painter Frida Kahlo, the dark and complex life of novelist Sylvia Plath, the mystery of the Greek myth Pandora and the journey of life based on a poem by local writer, Betsy Cox.
