CHUCK WRIGHT
Chuck Wright is the Sheriff of Spartanburg County, South Carolina, a full-service law enforcement operation employing more than 500 people. Sheriff Wright, who has been involved in law enforcement for more than 36 years, began his career with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office in 1986, when, upon completion of the South Carolina Criminal justice Academy, he was assigned to the Uniformed Patrol Division. He has also served the office in both the Traffic Division and the Special Services Division. He received several promotions during his years of service culminating in 1999 with his promotion to the rank of Master Deputy. As a deputy, he was certified in Accident Reconstruction, Datamaster, ACE, Radar, NCIC, and the Sig Arms Armorer’s Course. He also received certification as an instructor in Radar, Firearms, O/C and Driving. In 2002, he received an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Spartanburg Methodist College.
On January 9, 2004, he resigned as a Sheriff’s Deputy to run for the position of Sheriff. In November 2004 he was elected as Sheriff of Spartanburg County. Since then, Sheriff Wright has been re-elected in November 2008, November 2012, November 2016 and November 2020. He is an active member of the South Carolina Sheriff’s Association and has served as their chaplain for one year and, in 2010, was named their Sheriff of the Year
Sheriff Wright is a native of Spartanburg County where he resides with his wife, Kim (married in 1986), and their five sons. The oldest son, Justin is currently in the US Air Force. Sheriff Wright and his family are members at Rejoice Lutheran Church and proclaim that Jesus Christ leads his life and his family’s lives each and everyday. He strongly believes that his life is proof that behind every successful man stands a good woman.
